The Associate, Social Media & Digital Content is responsible for translating organizational priorities into compelling digital content that builds awareness, drives engagement, and strengthens connection with key audiences—particularly students—across the organization’s owned platforms. 

This role leads the development and execution of content strategies that bring programs, events, and opportunities to life through storytelling, audience insight, and consistent platform presence. The Associate owns day-to-day management of digital channels and is responsible for ensuring content is timely, relevant, and aligned with organizational priorities and audience needs. 

This is a strategic, creative, and hands-on role—ideal for a content-driven digital professional who understands how to connect with audiences, spot trends, and translate ideas into engaging content across social and digital platforms. This role requires strong collaboration with student engagement and events teams to ensure digital channels reflect the energy, value, and impact of the organization’s work. 

Currently, this role reports to the Chief Marketing Officer and aligns closely with the Student Engagement and Events teams. 

Key Responsibilities 

Content Strategy & Storytelling 

  • Develop and execute digital content strategies that elevate programs, events, and opportunities through engaging storytelling 
  • Translate organizational priorities into clear, audience-centered content themes and narratives 
  • Lead the development of content calendars and production workflows to ensure consistent, high-quality output across platforms 
  • Create and oversee the production of short-form and visual content (e.g., social posts, reels, stories, graphics, captions, email content) 
  • Collaborate with student engagement and events teams to identify stories, moments, and opportunities to showcase student experiences and outcomes 
  • Maintain strong editorial standards, tone, and brand voice across all digital channels 
  • Stay current on social and digital trends and apply insights to keep content fresh, relevant, and engaging 

Platform Management & Audience Engagement 

  • Own and manage the organization’s core digital and social media platforms, with a focus on building engagement and community among student audiences 
  • Ensure content is optimized for platform-specific formats, accessibility, and user experience 
  • Monitor audience engagement and respond to trends, feedback, and emerging opportunities in real time 
  • Identify opportunities to deepen engagement through interactive content, collaborations, and student-facing initiatives 
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure digital platforms effectively support participation in programs and events 

Performance Insights & Continuous Improvement 

  • Establish clear success metrics focused on engagement, reach, and audience interaction across owned platforms 
  • Track and analyze performance data to understand what content resonates and why 
  • Use insights to refine content strategy, improve engagement, and inform future content planning 
  • Share regular performance updates and recommendations with leadership and internal teams 

Content Operations & Collaboration 

  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to support efficient content production and publishing workflows 
  • Manage freelancers, creators, or vendors supporting content development when needed 
  • Maintain tools and systems that support content planning, scheduling, and performance tracking 
  • Ensure digital content operations are organized, scalable, and responsive to organizational priorities

Qualifications And Skills: 

  • 2-4 years of experience in social and digital content creation 
  • Natural storyteller, socially native, content obsessed 
  • Strong writing skills 
  • Proven success in creating and managing digital content creation and campaigns 
  • Fluency in analytics, reporting, and performance optimization 
  • Excellent project management, organizational, time-management and cross-functional collaboration skills 
  • Hyper-organized, ability to think ahead and out of the box and a desire to be innovative in approach and continuously develop  
  • High level of independence, energy, and integrity; demonstrates respect for a diversity of opinions and styles, and accepts accountability and responsibility 
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, balancing competing priorities while staying organized and detail-oriented 
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and ability to influence 
  • Highly team-oriented and constantly working for the overall good of the organization 
  • Ability to effectively manage/coordinate simultaneous projects and successfully prioritize multiple tasks with sound judgment.  
  • Strong technical skills. Proficient in Canva, video editing software, Google Analytics 
  • Ability to be in New York offices 3 days a week in our current hybrid model 
  • Ability to travel across the five boroughs to the CUNY campuses and employer sites  
  • CUNY grad/CUNY experience is a plus 

Salary for this role ranges from $80,000 – $90,000 annually, depending on experience.
